Parliamentary approval has been given for the Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Regulations 2015 to be extended to include requirements for there to be a working Carbon Monoxide alarms in any room that there is a fixed combustion appliance or any heating appliance - with the exception of gas cookers.
The other key changes are;
- smoke alarms will be mandatory in all social rented homes
- landlords will be expected to repair or replace alarms once informed that they are faulty
The biggest change effected by this extension is that all properties with a gas boiler / heating system will require a working Carbon Monoxide alarm.
An exact timeframe hasn't been given it has just been advised that - "As soon as parliamentary time allows, the UK Government will amend the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015."
But I would expect this to be soon - therefore, our efficient Relationship Managers have started work to ensure all Fully Managed properties are compliant ahead of the rush for alarms once a deadline has been given.
